Heritage Museum of Montgomery County

The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County Texas, is a great place for anyone interested about the county’s historical past. It is intended to evoke pleasant memories, and to inspire the next generation in appreciation of the region’s heritage. It is a fitting tribute to the pioneers who settled this area and built churches and schools, businesses, as well as industries. The structure is based upon a log cabin that was hand-crafted. Conroe’s historic structures are no longer part the local landscape

Conroe was once home to many historic buildings. Conroe Mill School and Conroe Normal and Industrial College both were built in the latter half of 1800. Both schools served the African American community in the region. The historic Grogan–Cochran House is home to Montgomery County’s Heritage Museum. The museum houses artifacts, as well as old photographs of the region. Other attractions include the Strake-Gray Oilfield House, and the Roughneck Bunkhouse.

Conroe’s train depot burned in 1981

It was once the hub for the Montgomery County rail system and welcomed rail travelers from all parts of the country. It served as the county’s seat, hosting businesses, hotels and boarding houses. It was transformed into a museum in which visitors can view historic items as well as learn about Montgomery County’s historical past.
