The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County Texas, is a great place for anyone interested about the county’s historical past. It is intended to evoke pleasant memories, and to inspire the next generation in appreciation of the region’s heritage. It is a fitting tribute to the pioneers who settled this area and built churches and schools, businesses, as well as industries. The structure is based upon a log cabin that was hand-crafted. Conroe’s historic buildings are no more part of the local landscape

Conroe once had many historic buildings. Conroe Mill School and Conroe Normal and Industrial College was built in the late 1800s. Both schools served the African American community. The historic Grogan–Cochran house is home to the Montgomery County Heritage Museum. The museum contains artifacts and old photographs from the region. Other attractions include the Strake-Gray Oilfield House, and the Roughneck Bunkhouse.

It was once the hub for the Montgomery County rail system and welcomed rail travelers from all parts of the country. It served as the county’s seat, hosting businesses, hotels and boarding houses. It was converted into a museum that displays historic items and tells the story of Montgomery County’s past.
