Heritage Museum of Montgomery County

The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County Texas, is a great place for anyone interested about the county’s historical past. It is intended to evoke pleasant memories, and to inspire the next generation in appreciation of the region’s heritage. It is a fitting memorial to the pioneers who settled the area and built churches, schools, businesses, and industries. The building is based on a hand-hewn log cabin, which was moved several times before being donated to the city of Conroe in 1972. Conroe’s historic structures are no longer part the local landscape

Historic buildings once graced the landscape in Conroe. Conroe Mill School and Conroe Normal and Industrial College, both built in late 1800s. Both schools were used by the African American community of the region. The historic Grogan–Cochran House is home to Montgomery County’s Heritage Museum. The museum contains artifacts and old photographs from the region. Other notable sites include the Strake-Gray Oilfield House (located in the city) and the Roughneck Bunkhouse (located in the city).
