Heritage Museum of Montgomery County

The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County Texas, is a great place for anyone interested about the county’s historical past. It is intended to evoke pleasant memories, and to inspire the next generation in appreciation of the region’s heritage. It is a fitting monument to the pioneers of the area who built churches, schools and businesses. The structure is based upon a log cabin that was hand-crafted. Conroe’s historic buildings are no longer part of the local landscape

Historic buildings once graced the landscape in Conroe. Conroe Mill School and Conroe Normal and Industrial College both were built in the latter half of 1800. Both schools served the African American community. The historic Grogan-Cochran home is home to the Montgomery County Heritage Museum. The museum displays artifacts as well as old photographs from the area. Other attractions include the Strake-Gray Oilfield House, and the Roughneck Bunkhouse.

Conroes train depot was set on fire in 1981

It was once a major hub for the Montgomery County railroad system, welcoming rail travelers all over the country. It was the county seat and hosted hotels, boardinghouses, and other facilities. After the fire, it became a museum where people can view historic items and learn about Montgomery County’s history.
