Heritage Museum of Montgomery County

The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County Texas offers a wonderful place for anyone who is interested in the county’s history. The building was created to evoke pleasant childhood memories and to inspire future generations to appreciate the area’s heritage. It is a fitting memorial for the pioneers who settled the region and built churches schools, businesses, and other industries. The structure is based upon a log cabin that was hand-crafted. Conroe’s historic structures are no longer part the local landscape

Conroe was once home to many historic buildings. Conroe Mill School and Conroe Normal and Industrial College, both built in late 1800s. Both schools were used by the African American community of the region. The historic Grogan–Cochran House is home to Montgomery County’s Heritage Museum. The museum features artifacts and old photographs of the area. Other notable sites include the Strake-Gray Oilfield House (located in the city) and the Roughneck Bunkhouse (located in the city).

Conroe’s train depot was destroyed in 1981

It was once a major hub for the Montgomery County railroad system, welcoming rail travelers all over the country. It was home to businesses, hotels, boarding homes, and other facilities. It also served as the county seat. It was rebuilt as a museum, where visitors can view historical items and learn more about Montgomery County’s rich history.

Admission costs $2 per adult.
